Say Anything

With the primaries approaching competition among the candidates has been heating up. Just as you might expect, the candidates are busy slinging mud at one another in an attempt to swing the polls in their own direction. This is all fine and good, but there have, however, been a few statements made which are pretty alarming. I’m not talking about slinging mud, this is politics so that’s to be expected. I’m talking about campaign promises and stretching the truth.

Within the past two weeks, Hillary Clinton has promised that electing her will cause the price of oil in America to drop; Mitt Romney told an interviewer that he watched saw his father march with Martin Luther King; Mike Huckabee drew the entire press to announce that he would no longer run a negative campaign, while his latest negative commercial was playing on the screen behind him. What is going on with these candidates? I know that people say incredulous things in the heat of the moment, but these are whoppers.

Clinton can’t possibly believe that she will be able to reign in gas prices with a single comment in her inaugural speech. If she does believe that, then I question her understanding of leadership. To date she has not retracted the statement. Romney knew exactly how his statement would be interpreted. Why would he wait for his statement to be questioned by journalists? And Huckabee? His stunt was obvious, he wanted the maximum impact for his commercial right before the primaries.

Their motives are understandable, the candidates are competing for one of the most prestigious jobs in the world. I have no confidence that I’d do any better if I were in their position, actually, but I’m not running for office, either. The thing that gets me about these statements is that they do not demonstrate leadership. I’m all for a person that knows how to get things done, including get elected. Getting things done can’t happen at any cost though. Promising more than you can deliver, lying and pulling a fast one on the media are not Presidential. That’s what I want to elect, a President.

Well I lived to see Obama make it another day…………..Hallelujah.
And a note to Hillary you are still in good shape baby. But a little Edwards is the one you need to get rid not Barak. If you want to survive its high time you go on ahead and mow Edwards down.

    ……………….nuff said

Ha, yeah, if Hillary is going to have a chance at earning the nomination she’s going to have to mow Edwards down. And likewise for Edwards. Its not good for either one of them that they’re neck and neck.
