The primaries started with a bang, didn’t they? Huckabee winning the Republican side isn’t too surprising, but beating Romney by eleven points is. Iowa was Romney’s strategy, win big early and build from there. The other candidates have already been spending time in the other primary states, so Romney is now playing catch up. This early upset can’t be good for him.
This isn’t so good for the Republicans, though. Huckabee may have earned a clear victory in the first round, but there’s still a long road to the White House. I haven’t heard too many solid plans out of Huckabee, other than Chuck Norris, and America is going to want something more substantive. Plus, his faith is already irritating me, and I’m a Christian. McCain and Thompson are both putting more effort into the coming states, and I haven’t yet given up hope in Ron Paul.
The Democratic results weren’t too surprising. Obama, Edwards and Clinton have each held a third of the slice for months. I’m glad that Obama came out on top, and a second place tie means there should be more sparks in the coming weeks. Hillary struck me as flailing in her speech last night, so I’m curious to see how she does in New Hampshire next week.
Ever the dunce, Rudy Giuliani told Wolf Blitzer that coming in sixth place doesn’t hurt his chances. He has a “50 state strategy“, and aparently Iowa isn’t that important for him. Why didn’t he win in Iowa, you already know the answer, 9/11 of course.
