American Thinker just posted an interesting article on why Fred Thompson is the currently the best candidate. Its an interesting read, about half of the post addresses the shortcomings of the other leading Republican candidates.
Then the focus turns to Thompson himself and explores both his experience and his reactions to the war in Iraq and various leaders. I think the author hits the nail on the head with a couple of points. Primarily, Thompson may not have a body of experience in office, but he’s the one candidate that is making intelligent points that the people can understand.
Rudy is hijacking his own campaign, and he’s too close to center for many Republicans to seriously consider him. McCain has been at odds with the Republican party for too long. Romney is also educated on the issues, but he’s too slick to be taken at face value. The article gives links to a couple of Thompson’s replies and one of his speeches. If you’re at all interested in the Republican party, its worth a read.
