Ron Paul has almost two decades of experience in public office, fervent (if not fanatical) supporters that are very creative in getting the word out, and successful fund raising campaigns. What he doesn’t have is the lead spot in the polls. According to a recent article in the New York Times, Paul is stepping up to change that.
Last quarter Paul raised just over a million dollars in a week. His goal for the week was $500k. He has set some lofty fund raising goals for the remainder of the year, and he’s on track thus far. If past performance is any indicator, he’s going to him them. According to one of Paul’s spokespersons, its time to start spending some of that money.
Paul has already launched a radio campaign in four early primary states. Next week he’ll start a nation-wide television campaign as well. The campaign will be designed to introduce Paul to a wider audience, not attack other candidates.
With no centralized media presence Paul placed fourth in a New Hampshire poll last week, behind Romney, Giuliani and McCain. If he begins to draw independent voters he could bump one more more of these more mainstream candidates.
Now that the primaries are upon us, the race to the nomination is starting to heat up. If Paul’s fan base continues to be as focused on supporting their candidate while increasing in numbers, its hard to imagine that other GOP hopefuls will not slip.
