Former Clinton supporter and one-time donor Peter Paul recently released a video to get the word out about what he believes is proof that Hillary is corrupt. Back in 2000 Paul (not to be confused with GOP candidate Ron Paul) threw a support party for Clinton to support her in her campaign for New York Senator. The proof he offers is a clip of Hillary thanking him for staging a fund raiser.

While discussing his thoughts on torture, GOP hopeful Rudy Giuliani made the following comment…
They talk about sleep deprivation. I mean, on that theory, I’m getting tortured running for president of the United States. That’s plain silly. That’s silly.
I’ve been leaning away from Giuliani for some time. All of his fanciful 9/11 claims, his cross dressing, his disregard for the 2nd amendment. Now he’s crying about the being under the public microscope? His comment indicates not only that he doesn’t understand sleep deprivation, but also that the pressure and scrutiny are wearing him down.
Rudy, this is what it means to run for president. We’re not giving this office away, you have to earn it.
I just read over at Daily Kos that Al Gore has made a call for people to share their questions and opinions on issues that matter to them in the 2008 presidential race. That’s a pretty thinly veiled move toward announcing candidacy. Very interesting.
Ron Paul has almost two decades of experience in public office, fervent (if not fanatical) supporters that are very creative in getting the word out, and successful fund raising campaigns. What he doesn’t have is the lead spot in the polls. According to a recent article in the New York Times, Paul is stepping up to change that.

You likely already know that Ron Paul placed 4th overall in the recent New Hampshire polls. I just came across an interesting stat on Lew Rockwell’s blog. 44% of the GOP voters that consider themselves liberal indicated that they would vote for Paul. These are the primaries, so I’ll assume these numbers were restricted to people that checked “Republican” when they registered to vote. I’d be curious to learn more about liberal republicans. If they’re liberal then why not cheer for the Democrats? Or do they now consider themselves Democrat but they had to vote in the GOP primaries because of the box they checked when they registered? Very interesting. The full results have been published by the New Hampshire Institute of Politics.
Earlier this week American Thinker published an interesting article outlining how Hillary Clinton is reviving the Republican party. She’s the lead Democrat by a healthy margin in any measurable standard you care to look at, and there’s a general assumption that she will be the next president. The author makes the point that nothing ignites the Republicans like a Clinton. He also notes the additional benefit that Hillary’s comfortable lead is encouraging a number of independent voters to check out the Republicans. Its a good article. You should check it out.
What do you do when you don’t get your way? Cry conspiracy. You already knew this was coming. According to democratic hopeful Mike Gravel NBC and the Democratic National Committee are colluding to knock him out of the presidential race. And why would they go to so much trouble? Because Hillary is the most popular candidate, and he aggressively confronted her at the last debate. Or maybe because NBC is owned by General Electric, who is one of the major defense contractors supporting the Iraq effort, and Gravel has spoken sharply against the war. That’s quite a victim card that he’s playing, isn’t it? Read his entire response.
NBC News political director Chuck Todd has blocked Democratic hopeful Mike Gravel from participating in the next televised presidential debate. The Democratic debate is scheduled to take place in Philadelphia on Oct 30.

I just came across a small article displaying the stats of Ron Paul’s fundraising efforts last quarter. The numbers have been reported elsewhere, so there was nothing surprising there (other than the fact that of the $5M raised, the average donation was $98). I did notice, however, the name of Mitt Romney’s largest benefactor… Mitt Romney. Of the $18.5M that he raised, Romney himself contributed $8.5M.
Senator Clinton has been the leading Democrat for a number of weeks, and the gap has been widening in recent weeks. The primaries are approaching so other Democratic hopefuls areĀ feeling the heat. This week while speaking at Drake University Barack Obama accused Clinton of being part of a congress that failed the public by leading the nation into war with Iraq.
