Giuliani Gets Booed

Rudy Giuliani went to see the Yankee’s play this past Monday, in Yankee Stadium. During the game his picture was shown on the jumbotron a couple of times. The first time it was shown the crowd had a reaction, but no one could tell if they were chanting “Rudy, Rudy” or booing. The second time his image was shown was in the middle of Ronan Tynan singing “God Bless America.” The crowd made it very clear that they were not cheering for Giuliani, they were booing. No major papers that I can find have picked up the story, though MSNBC did report it on the air.

That’s gotta hurt. In your own city, at a sporting event. Over at Daily Kos Davefromqueens wrote an essay explaining why he believes Rudy was booed. He makes some good points along the way, and he’s giving a message that resonates with many. Rudy, are you getting the message? Your 9/11 hero rhetoric isn’t selling anymore.

California’s Secession Letter to Bush

Someone over at Democracy Means You published an open letter to Dubya suggesting that the liberal state would like to secede from the union. Though its a few years old, I hadn’t seen it before. Its a bit biting, a bit fun, and liberal to the core.

Obama Proposes Foreign Oil Cut

Democratic hopeful Barack Obama is proposing a 35% decrease in the amount of foreign oil that we use, according to Bloomberg. In a speech intended for a New Hampshire audience, Obama says

“Our energy problem has become an energy crisis because no matter how well intentioned the promise, no matter how bold the proposal, they all fall victim to the same Washington politics that has only become more divided and dishonest.”

Obama’s proposed solution is to reduce dependence on oil and create jobs by investing $150 billion in environmentally friendly industries over a 10 year period.

Ron Paul Is Consistent

Earlier this morning I came across an article in which Ron Paul was explaining that he thinks we should just leave Iraq.

I mean, we just went in and we went in erroneously. We went in without the proper authority. We went in under a false pretense and all the conditions that were claimed didn’t exist. It’s going badly. So I think we should just leave.

Hillary Leads in Iowa

Hillary Clinton took the lead from John Edwards in an Iowa poll over the weekend. Over the summer she and husband Bill Clinton have made a number of campaign trips to Iowa. Obama and Edwards remain within striking distance. Clinton trailed both other leading Democrats in the last poll, which was taken during May.

Rudy Has An Answer

If you ask Rudy Giuliani a question, he has an answer for you. You don’t have to go to the trouble of asking though, you already know the answer. In fact, the answer hasn’t changed in six years. The New York Daily News just released an article saying that Giuliani’s answer to every question is 9/11, with some quotes to support the claim.

On The Issues

Forbes just published a breakdown of where each of the major candidates stands on the issues of foreign trade, domestic economy, social issues, foreign policy and environment & energy. The candidates are measured on a scale of 1 to 10. Lower numbers are more liberal and higher numbers are more conservative. The information is presented graphically and even includes a total, which makes it concise and easy to understand.

For more depth the website On the Issues is a good source of information. They cover a wider variety of issues and also provide more depth. There you can see voting records, quotes and clips from newspaper articles.

You may have read in the news today that some of the nation’s most politically influential conservatives are considering backing a 3rd party candidate for the Presidency. According to the Associated Press this group convened over the weekend to discuss backing Richard Viguerie. Having never heard of him before, I decided to do a little research.
