Say Anything

With the primaries approaching competition among the candidates has been heating up. Just as you might expect, the candidates are busy slinging mud at one another in an attempt to swing the polls in their own direction. This is all fine and good, but there have, however, been a few statements made which are pretty alarming. I’m not talking about slinging mud, this is politics so that’s to be expected. I’m talking about campaign promises and stretching the truth.

Ron Paul Is Consistent

Earlier this morning I came across an article in which Ron Paul was explaining that he thinks we should just leave Iraq.

I mean, we just went in and we went in erroneously. We went in without the proper authority. We went in under a false pretense and all the conditions that were claimed didn’t exist. It’s going badly. So I think we should just leave.

Mr Giuliani Please Stop Mentioning 9/11

Mr. Giuliani, we all recognize that you were in New York City with the attacks occurred. Thank you for your help. Six years have passed, its time to move on with your life and we don’t want to hear about it from you anymore. Yes we will always remember the tragedy, but we’re tired of you gassing on in shameless self aggrandizement. The way you’re using Sept 11 is quite repulsive.

Next Candidate To Drop: Mike Gravel

There are currently eight candidates running for the Democratic nomination for Presidency. With more than a year to go before the election, there is still a lot of time for upsets, but one candidate seems to be having difficulty getting started. Since he announced, Mike Gravel’s performance has followed a flat line.

Though he was the among the first to announce his candidacy, he has raised the least of all candidates. The fund race has gotten a much earlier start this year than in previous elections, so the $238k that he has raised might look like a nice chunk of change. Compare that with Clinton’s $45M of cash on hand. Every other candidate (Democratic and Republican) has already spent more than Gravel has raised. In fact, most of the candidates currently have more cash on hand than Gravel has raised thus far.

Not coincidentally, Gravel has also consistently been lowest in the polls. With seven other Democratic hopefuls, two of which are the top two candidates in the polls, its is difficult to imagine Gravel becoming a serious contender.

I predict that Mike Gravel’s time in the limelight is waning, and that he will be the next candidate to drop.
