First there was the call for a re-vote in Florida and Michigan. Then there was the statement that pledged delegates didn’t necessarily have to honor that pledge at the convention. Now there’s accusations that her opponent doesn’t want people to vote in the remaining primaries. What is Hillary smoking? Is she honestly that desperate for delegates?
While these tactics may work if she was running for, oh, I don’t know… Prom Queen. But do we really want a prom queen for President?

Presidential candidate Mike Gravel has announced that he’s leaving the Democratic party. In his statement he said that the Democratic party no longer represents his hope for America, so he’s switching to the Libertarian party. He’s apparently in this for the long haul. I can’t say he’s my favorite candidate, but I’ll give him credit for staying in the fight.

Mike Gravel visited a private high school in New Hampshire this past Sunday. In an auditorium packed with teenagers he spoke on the benefits of marijuana over alcohol.
“Alcohol is a heck of a lot worse than marijuana, and I’m sure a lot of you have tripped out on alcohol. It’s a lot safer to do it on marijuana.”
He went on to say that he believes the drug should be available for sale in liquor stores, and that he’s in favor of decriminalizing minor offenses. I have a couple of thoughts.

Two more candidates have dropped out of the 2008 Presidential race. Joe Biden and Chris Dodd have each thrown in the towel. Mike Gravel is stubborn enough to continue, as is Dennis Kucinich. I’ll admit it, I was wrong.

In the latest bout between Mike Gravel and NBC, Gravel vowed to answer the same questions as the other candidates in live web cast. He also garnered some serious support. After crying corporate censorship Gregory Chase offered NBC $1M in either advertising or cash outright to allow Gravel to appear with in the televised debate. Not only that, he’s also offered $25k to the individual that posts the most popular Gravel video on YouTube. NBC apparently wasn’t interested because there was no response, but Chase did manage to get some major press coverage for both himself and his candidate, including an interview on NPR’s All Things Considered. Such fanatical support will definitely help Gravel, but will it be enough? I’ll stand by my earlier prediction. One thing that did catch my eye though, Chase has also said that he likes Ron Paul, though he hasn’t offered the same amount of public support for Paul.

What do you do when you don’t get your way? Cry conspiracy. You already knew this was coming. According to democratic hopeful Mike Gravel NBC and the Democratic National Committee are colluding to knock him out of the presidential race. And why would they go to so much trouble? Because Hillary is the most popular candidate, and he aggressively confronted her at the last debate. Or maybe because NBC is owned by General Electric, who is one of the major defense contractors supporting the Iraq effort, and Gravel has spoken sharply against the war. That’s quite a victim card that he’s playing, isn’t it? Read his entire response.

Next Candidate To Drop: Mike Gravel
There are currently eight candidates running for the Democratic nomination for Presidency. With more than a year to go before the election, there is still a lot of time for upsets, but one candidate seems to be having difficulty getting started. Since he announced, Mike Gravel’s performance has followed a flat line.
Though he was the among the first to announce his candidacy, he has raised the least of all candidates. The fund race has gotten a much earlier start this year than in previous elections, so the $238k that he has raised might look like a nice chunk of change. Compare that with Clinton’s $45M of cash on hand. Every other candidate (Democratic and Republican) has already spent more than Gravel has raised. In fact, most of the candidates currently have more cash on hand than Gravel has raised thus far.
Not coincidentally, Gravel has also consistently been lowest in the polls. With seven other Democratic hopefuls, two of which are the top two candidates in the polls, its is difficult to imagine Gravel becoming a serious contender.
I predict that Mike Gravel’s time in the limelight is waning, and that he will be the next candidate to drop.
