Huckabee Would Pardon Kenneth Copeland

Last fall Senator Charles Grassley announced an investigation into the financial wrongdoings of several television ministries, including that of famed televangelist Kenneth Copeland. That’s not news. I did, however, just learn from the Wittenburg Door that Mike Huckabee appeared on Copeland’s show six times in November, around the same time that Grassley was beginning his investigation. Here’s what Huckabee had to say about the investigation:

Huckabee Congratulates Canada

I’m going to step off of the Huckabee soapbox soon, but I’m not quite done yet. After all of my surfing for Huckabee links yesterday, someone showed me this video. Its too funny to keep to myself, you have to see this. Enjoy

10 Skeletons In Mike Huckabee’s Closet

I haven’t been much of a Huckabee fan over the past few weeks. In spite of his recent win in the Iowa caucus he’s garnered some less than flattering press. The good people of Iowa see something in him, so I decided to give Huckabee another look with the intent of affirming or negating my first impressions. After taking a look at Huckabee’s statements and record while in office, I’m not swayed. Mike Huckabee is, in my estimation, one of the scariest Republicans in the mix. Here are ten reasons the Mike Huckabee for President campaign needs to be derailed.

Iowa Mayhem

The primaries started with a bang, didn’t they? Huckabee winning the Republican side isn’t too surprising, but beating Romney by eleven points is. Iowa was Romney’s strategy, win big early and build from there. The other candidates have already been spending time in the other primary states, so Romney is now playing catch up. This early upset can’t be good for him.

Say Anything

With the primaries approaching competition among the candidates has been heating up. Just as you might expect, the candidates are busy slinging mud at one another in an attempt to swing the polls in their own direction. This is all fine and good, but there have, however, been a few statements made which are pretty alarming. I’m not talking about slinging mud, this is politics so that’s to be expected. I’m talking about campaign promises and stretching the truth.

Huckabee For Sale

Mike Huckabee’s questionable ethics continue. It seems that he’s accepting money to speak at churches. He claims that he’s broke, so he’s providing his supporters with a means to keep his family fed until the election. He’ll come to speak at your local congregation for $25,000. By law he’s not allowed to say anything about his campaign for Presidency, so he’s likely to give a sermon.

Huckabee’s Family

If you’re keeping up with the race to the Presidency then you’ve no doubt noticed that Mike Huckabee has received some negative press for his record of pardons. Recently it has come out that in 1998, Huckabee’s 18 year old son David mutilated a dog while he was working at a summer camp. No charges were ever filed. After reading this I did some searching on David Huckabee, and it turns out that he’s had some other negative press.

Weapons charges, questionable business dealings, pet mutilation, that’s quite a list. Keep in mind that this is all happening while dad is under public scrutiny. Its hard to imagine that Mike Huckabee didn’t expect this news to come out, which begs the question, why is he not answering? But then, it seems that Mike is digging his own hole with statements of homosexuality.

Huckabee Under Fire

Mike Huckabee has recently come under scrutiny, and from several different angles. The Arkansas governor has also been rising in the polls. Last week comments about homosexuality and AIDS that he had made over a decade ago surfaced. Huckabee was in favor of sectioning off AIDS victims to protect the public at large. Apparently that’s still his position because since last week he has defended his statement. I certainly applaud his conviction and his willingness to accept responsibility for his words and actions, though its hard to imagine this position advancing his numbers in the polls.

Just this morning his high rate of pardons is coming to light, over 1000 of them in his decade as governor. Huckabee hasn’t addressed this topic yet, that I know of. I’ll be curious to see his reaction though. The AP painted a picture of Huckabee being free with pardons if he had met the person, or if they had some connection with him.

GOP Update: Giuliani Still Leading, Thompson Second

The Gallup Poll released the latest GOP standings yesterday. Mayor Rudy Giuliani continues to lead with the recently announced Fred Thompson trailing by 8 points. Senator John McCain is now ahead of Mitt Romney. One thing of note, I’m seeing a lot of interest in Ron Paul both online and in my community (Texas), but he’s tied with Mike Huckabee at only 4% in the polls.

I’ll be curious to see if Paul is able to convert all of his recent media attention to a bump in the polls in the coming weeks. Props to Fred Thompson for making a strong entry into the Presidential race. With so many candidates running for one nomination spot, its amazing that he’s already in the number two spot after a couple of (official) weeks.

Huckabee Answers Evolution Question

I’ve been going through YouTube videos on the debate over the past few days. Just this morning I saw one worth sharing. Arkansas Governor Mike Huckabee is asked whether he believes in creation or evolution, and he does a good job of answering the question without preaching (although he is an ordained minister). What’s interesting about his answer is that he questions the validity of the question being posed to a Presidential candidate. “I’m not planning on writing the curriculum for an eighth grade science book, I’m asking for the opportunity to be President of the United States.”

On an interesting side note, Huckabee is in favor of a flat tax that would do away with the IRS.
