On The Issues

Forbes just published a breakdown of where each of the major candidates stands on the issues of foreign trade, domestic economy, social issues, foreign policy and environment & energy. The candidates are measured on a scale of 1 to 10. Lower numbers are more liberal and higher numbers are more conservative. The information is presented graphically and even includes a total, which makes it concise and easy to understand.

For more depth the website On the Issues is a good source of information. They cover a wider variety of issues and also provide more depth. There you can see voting records, quotes and clips from newspaper articles.

Dems Can’t Promise Iraq Pullout

You’ve no doubt heard Presidential hopefuls thrash Dubya about the war in Iraq for the past couple of years. They’ve been shaking their fingers as long as we’ve been there. Now that they’re getting serious about taking over the oval office, the top three Democratic candidates concede that they can’t promise a complete exit from Iraq. In a New Hampshire Democratic debate held on Wednesday night, candidates Clinton, Obama and Edwards each stated that they could not commit to a complete troop withdrawal within their first Presidential term. Two candidates did, however, promise a complete troop withdrawal in the debate, Christopher Dodd and Bill Richardson. Its very curious that the top three make no guarantees.
