Huckabee For Sale

Mike Huckabee’s questionable ethics continue. It seems that he’s accepting money to speak at churches. He claims that he’s broke, so he’s providing his supporters with a means to keep his family fed until the election. He’ll come to speak at your local congregation for $25,000. By law he’s not allowed to say anything about his campaign for Presidency, so he’s likely to give a sermon.

Romney Defines ’saw’

Remember back in 1998 when Bill Clinton was in hot water because of an office intern? And the court compelled him to answer? And in his statement he said “it depends on what the definition of ‘is’ is”? Romney hasn’t even been elected yet, and he’s already having to define the words that he uses for us. This can’t be good.

Romney Is Struggling

With the primaries beginning in just a couple of days, every candidate is putting their best efforts into a successful campaign in Iowa and New Hampshire. Governor Mitt Romney has enjoyed a lead in the polls in these two states for most of the past year. Over the past few days Romney has garnered some negative press, which has hurt his standing in the polls. That’s got to hurt, considering that he’s spent millions in these states in hopes of early wins. Now he’s doing everything he can to stop the slipping. Defending his campaign and mud-slinging are likely just the beginning.

President of 9/11

Mayor Giuliani offers a bold new 9/11 for all of us. Political analyst Gregory Hammond predicts,

Sure, he has no foreign or national policy experience, and both his personal life and political career are riddled with scandal, but in the key area of having been on TV on 9/11, the other candidates simply cannot match him.

Whether or not you like Giuliani, its hard to argue with that.

Tancredo’s Out

Tommy Tancredo has officially ended his bid for the Presidency. Tancredo noted the incredibly long odds of winning, and stated that he was pleased with placing illegal immigration on the agenda. I think this was probably a smart decision, he hadn’t been very high in the polls, and he hasn’t been the media’s darling. In the same statement he announced that he endorses Mitt Romney. Now Tommy can either relax for a while, or get behind his candidate. Either way, this is probably good for the GOP.

Huckabee’s Family

If you’re keeping up with the race to the Presidency then you’ve no doubt noticed that Mike Huckabee has received some negative press for his record of pardons. Recently it has come out that in 1998, Huckabee’s 18 year old son David mutilated a dog while he was working at a summer camp. No charges were ever filed. After reading this I did some searching on David Huckabee, and it turns out that he’s had some other negative press.

Weapons charges, questionable business dealings, pet mutilation, that’s quite a list. Keep in mind that this is all happening while dad is under public scrutiny. Its hard to imagine that Mike Huckabee didn’t expect this news to come out, which begs the question, why is he not answering? But then, it seems that Mike is digging his own hole with statements of homosexuality.

Huckabee Under Fire

Mike Huckabee has recently come under scrutiny, and from several different angles. The Arkansas governor has also been rising in the polls. Last week comments about homosexuality and AIDS that he had made over a decade ago surfaced. Huckabee was in favor of sectioning off AIDS victims to protect the public at large. Apparently that’s still his position because since last week he has defended his statement. I certainly applaud his conviction and his willingness to accept responsibility for his words and actions, though its hard to imagine this position advancing his numbers in the polls.

Just this morning his high rate of pardons is coming to light, over 1000 of them in his decade as governor. Huckabee hasn’t addressed this topic yet, that I know of. I’ll be curious to see his reaction though. The AP painted a picture of Huckabee being free with pardons if he had met the person, or if they had some connection with him.

Giuliani’s Death Nell

DailyKos writer Jake McIntyre released a piece earlier today predicting that Rudy Giuliani’s presidential bid is effectively over because in 2001 he illegally billed several obscure city agencies for expenses related to his affair with Judith Nathan. While Giuliani’s philandering is old news, playing at the expense of the taxpayers is alarming to say the least. Giuliani, of course, has denied allegations, but they’ve been independently confirmed by Fox News. The American people aren’t going to let this go. And they shouldn’t.

Rolling Stone Interviews Paul

Rolling Stone recognized that Paul is the only Republican speaking out against the war in Iraq, and just published an interview with him. In typical Paul fashion, his answers are blunt and honest without being rude. Whether or not you like Paul, you have to admit that he brings a fresh perspective to the presidential race. Its a short interview, just six questions. Here’s a quote…

If someone is unhappy with the Bush policy, they would find Giuliani’s would be even more extreme.

If you like Paul its worth a read.
