Say Anything

With the primaries approaching competition among the candidates has been heating up. Just as you might expect, the candidates are busy slinging mud at one another in an attempt to swing the polls in their own direction. This is all fine and good, but there have, however, been a few statements made which are pretty alarming. I’m not talking about slinging mud, this is politics so that’s to be expected. I’m talking about campaign promises and stretching the truth.

Clinton Promises Oil Price Drop

While addressing a group in a New York City YWCA, Hillary Clinton stated that voting for her would cause the price of oil to drop. What, you may be asking, uniquely qualifies her to make such a claim? During her inaugural speech she’ll announce a plan to reduce dependence on foreign oil. When they hear this, oil producing countries will drop their prices to dissuade America’s interest in alternative energy. She refers to former President Jimmy Carter’s efforts to reduce foreign oil dependence. This prompts a number of questions.

Clinton is Slipping

A recent poll shows Democratic hopeful Hillary Clinton is falling behind several Republican candidates in the polls. This is an about face from poll indications over the summer, which had Hillary out in front of all other candidates by a comfortable margin. According to one pollster, questions about Clinton’s electability have always been present, and are becoming more prevalent as the election approaches. This is a very interesting turn of events.

Hillary Draws Some Negative Press

Former Clinton supporter and one-time donor Peter Paul recently released a video to get the word out about what he believes is proof that Hillary is corrupt. Back in 2000 Paul (not to be confused with GOP candidate Ron Paul) threw a support party for Clinton to support her in her campaign for New York Senator. The proof he offers is a clip of Hillary thanking him for staging a fund raiser.

Hillary Is Good For The GOP

Earlier this week American Thinker published an interesting article outlining how Hillary Clinton is reviving the Republican party. She’s the lead Democrat by a healthy margin in any measurable standard you care to look at, and there’s a general assumption that she will be the next president. The author makes the point that nothing ignites the Republicans like a Clinton. He also notes the additional benefit that Hillary’s comfortable lead is encouraging a number of independent voters to check out the Republicans. Its a good article. You should check it out.

Dems Lashing Out At Clinton

Senator Clinton has been the leading Democrat for a number of weeks, and the gap has been widening in recent weeks. The primaries are approaching so other Democratic hopefuls areĀ feeling the heat. This week while speaking at Drake University Barack Obama accused Clinton of being part of a congress that failed the public by leading the nation into war with Iraq.

Hillary Leads in Iowa

Hillary Clinton took the lead from John Edwards in an Iowa poll over the weekend. Over the summer she and husband Bill Clinton have made a number of campaign trips to Iowa. Obama and Edwards remain within striking distance. Clinton trailed both other leading Democrats in the last poll, which was taken during May.

Dems Can’t Promise Iraq Pullout

You’ve no doubt heard Presidential hopefuls thrash Dubya about the war in Iraq for the past couple of years. They’ve been shaking their fingers as long as we’ve been there. Now that they’re getting serious about taking over the oval office, the top three Democratic candidates concede that they can’t promise a complete exit from Iraq. In a New Hampshire Democratic debate held on Wednesday night, candidates Clinton, Obama and Edwards each stated that they could not commit to a complete troop withdrawal within their first Presidential term. Two candidates did, however, promise a complete troop withdrawal in the debate, Christopher Dodd and Bill Richardson. Its very curious that the top three make no guarantees.
