Someone over at Democracy Means You published an open letter to Dubya suggesting that the liberal state would like to secede from the union. Though its a few years old, I hadn’t seen it before. Its a bit biting, a bit fun, and liberal to the core.

Syndicated radio host Dr Chuck Baldwin recently published an essay in which he declares that former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani would be worse for America than Senator Hillary Clinton.

Last month president Bush expanded the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act. It was a fast modification to account for advances in technology. Today Bush announced that national security professionals are dependent on these laws to be effective in their jobs.
When the Protect America Act, as its called, was passed Congress set it to expire in six months so that it could be fine tuned. In his announcement Bush said “Without these tools, our country will be much more vulnerable to attack,” and “The threat from al Qaida is not going to expire in 135 days, so I call on Congress to make the Protect America Act permanent.”
The Washington Post published an interesting article on Wikipedia’s role in providing information on candidates. Apparently Wiki users are arguing over things like whether Sen. McCain is a liberal or conservative, Sen. Clinton’s record as First Lady, whether Sen. Thompson’s first name should be reported as Fred or Freddy, and more.
As an online encyclopedia where users themselves are the editors (”wiki” stands for What I Know Is), there’s bound to be plenty of disputes. Its value in research is dependent upon the validity of the information. Biased authors submitting content which serves their purpose limits the usefulness. It just makes sense that more popular content will spark debate. Its a pretty interesting comment regarding online culture, really.
U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero struck down a primary piece of the Patriot Act on Thursday. He said when “the judiciary lowers its guard on the Constitution, it opens the door to far-reaching invasions of liberty,” referring to the FBI’s ability to demand records without the kind of court supervision required for other government searches. Regarding the national security letters, he said, Congress crossed its boundaries so dramatically that to let the law stand might turn an innocent legislative step into “the legislative equivalent of breaking and entering, with an ominous free pass to the hijacking of constitutional values.” This new ruling ruling does not mean the FBI must obtain the approval of a court prior to ordering records be turned over, but rather must justify to a court the need for secrecy if the orders will last longer than a reasonable and brief period of time.
Senator Craig, who plead guilty to a sexual charge earlier this summer, is considering trying to keep his seat in the Senate. This past weekend he announced that he would resign at the end of September, then he turned around and hired an attorney to help him reverse his plea. Now he doesn’t want to be guilty? This has been a farce since it started in June. Idaho, I hope you’re outraged.
California Senator Dianne Feinstein announced earlier today that she plans to introduce a resolution to abolish the Electoral College. During her statement Feinstein said “I believe that the Electoral College must be abolished, and that the President be elected through direct popular election.” The Electoral College has won over the popular vote a total of four times in American history, 1824, 1876, 1888 and most recently in 2000.
Former Bush aid Karl Rove made an appearance on the Rush Limbaugh radio show on Wednesday. During the interview he made the statement that Senator Clinton’s presidential campaign is “fatally flawed”. He went on to say “There is no frontrunner who has entered the primary season with negatives as high as she has in the history of modern polling”. A Clinton spokesperson replied by saying “The reality is that as the campaign now gets under way, Sen. Clinton’s ratings are improving because Americans are seeing that she has the strength and experience to deliver change.”
Cracked did an article on the 12 worst candidate websites. You’ll note that this isn’t exactly news, and you’re right. Its still pretty good. Be sure to read what they have to say about each website. I like the “awkward attempt at hipness” piece on each site.
The ACLU just put out an article stating that President Bush is asking to expand the power granted within the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act to account for advances in technology. ACLU representative Caroline Fredrickson states that
“Hidden in this bill is a disturbing provision that would give complete immunity - from criminal prosecution as well as civil liability - for the telecom companies
